The McNair family, a key figure in Houston’s business and sports sectors, is entangled in a complicated legal battle that originated in probate court in November 2023, centered on Janice McNair’s health. More litigation has been brought to Harris County district court, where tensions have escalated. Bob McNair, the family patriarch who passed away in 2018, built his fortune through Cogen Technologies, which he founded in 1983 and grew into the world's largest privately-owned cogeneration company. After selling Cogen, McNair established McNair Interests (MI), a private investment firm focusing on various sectors including energy, real estate, and biotechnology. In 1999, McNair brought professional football back to Houston when he was awarded the NFL's 32nd franchise, launching the Houston Texans in 2002.
